Traffic Meter

Last updated: October 11, 2026.

This policy describes data handling in the Traffic Meter app for macOS and when you contact its support.

Data used by the app

Traffic Meter uses connection names and types, network interface names, received and sent byte counters, and tracking dates. This information is used to display transfer speeds and traffic statistics by connection.

The app also obtains the active network interface’s IP address for display in the panel. This address is not written to the statistics file.

Connection names and statistics are stored locally on your Mac. The app does not transmit them to the developer or third-party services and does not sync them through a developer-operated cloud service. Mac backups created by you or macOS may include the app’s data.

The app requires no account and includes no advertising, integrated analytics or user-tracking tools. Traffic Meter reads network interface counters; it does not analyze packet contents, visited pages or messages.

Access to Wi-Fi network names

macOS may request Location Services permission to allow access to the Wi-Fi network name (SSID). Traffic Meter uses this permission to distinguish networks by name.

The app does not request geographic coordinates or store location history. If permission is denied, Wi-Fi traffic is tracked by network interface rather than by network name.

You can change this permission in the Location Services section of your macOS privacy settings.

Storage and deletion

Connection records and accumulated statistics are stored locally until you remove or reset them. When a connection’s data is updated, the app removes daily records outside the most recent 30 calendar days; aggregate counters are retained.

The delete button removes an inactive connection’s record and statistics. For the active connection, it resets the accumulated counters while retaining the information needed to continue tracking. The app continues measuring traffic after a reset.

The developer does not receive your local statistics and cannot access or delete them remotely.

Support correspondence

If you email support@altoo.net, the developer receives your sender address, message and any attachments. This information is used to respond, investigate and resolve the issue you describe. An email service is used to deliver and store correspondence.

Correspondence is retained for as long as needed to handle your request and related matters, and to meet applicable legal requirements. To request deletion of correspondence, email support@altoo.net. Information that must be retained by law may be kept for the required period.

Please do not include passwords, payment details or other information unnecessary to resolve your issue. Hide private network names and other confidential information before sending screenshots.

Policy updates

This policy will be updated if data handling practices change. The date of the current version appears at the top of this page.
